Very well put, it is true, and many women put a false impression of themselves with such photos, especially when stood next to a rolls royce or porsche etc..I never respond to these profiles.

Я согласна с автором поста, НО и мужчины преподносят себя не с лучшей стороны. Вот например, мне абсолютно не нравится, когда мужчина фотографируется с голым торсом, он сразу перестает заинтересовывать, я считаю, что у мужчины в рубашке и с улыбкой больше шансов найти вторую половинку, чем у голого.
Голого мужчину мы успеем увидеть, когда будут уже отношения. ну зачем это показывать на главных фото.
Еще мне не нравится, когда мужчины на фото позируют лежа или не смотрят в объектив, это пренебрежение к женщинам.
Очень много таких нюансов и у нас женщин и у мужчин, мы все хотим понравиться противоположному полу, и пытаемся показать себя как можно лучше....

Original poster, your thoughts echo my own, I've only been here on this site a couple of days and I don't claim to know all the differences in Ukranian/Russian and beyond women vs their North American and Western European counterparts but there are pictures and phrases that naturally turn me off from wanting to respond to somebodies initial interest. I am worried I am writing off women prematurely based on simple cultural differences but when you read I am a princess or a queen, the immediate perception I form is one of girls who consider them as such on this side of the pond, high maintenance spoiled brats...when I see Birkin bags and Louis Vuitton bags displayed prominently I think woman who demands these things, when I get a message and she mentions her love of fine champagnes, that's great but most of us live normal lives where we don't drink a 500+$ bottle of champagne in place of a bottle of water just cause it's monday...I myself have some expensive interests but I try not to emphasize qualities in pictures that I don't want to be known for. I think it's fairly reasonable for any woman to look for a man with certain means but when it's such an emphasis it becomes a turn off...I also get the desire for using professional quality shots but I'd love to see some more real ones mixed in, I work in the film industry I know the power of movie make up, and what magicians make up artists can be so it'd be nice to see some real faces. I am open to the possibility that I just need to re-frame my western mindset but it's nice to see that I'm not the only one surprised by some of what they see here.

Я никогда не смотрю профиль мужчины, если он на фотографии:
-с обнажённым торсом;
-сидит или лежит на постели;
-фото через зеркало;
-за неряшливым,неубранным столом с выпивкой;
-мутные, нечёткие фото;
-с дурацкими гримасами или в слишком эпатажной одежде;
-в темных очках (если не на солнце);
в общем, наспех, небрежно сделанные, выдающие несерьёзные намерения.

А я смотрю . Некоторые интересные и самодостаточные мужчины не любят фотографироваться. Я знаю, что говорю.

Мариночка, я тоже видела одного итальянца в плавках для купания, при чем детских, с какими-то рожками на той шапочке, которую он натянул себе на голову, и с рожей довольною, гримасой не понятной, сфоткался и прислал... И это он посчитал круто, мужчина в 37 лет, военный, и такой фигнёй мается... Плакать надо, а ему смешно ))

Haakon, I agree about some of the photos women put in their profiles, "profile pictures that try to show some class, nice gowns, diamonds, champagne etc". This makes them look like GOLD DIGGERS. Only interested in very rich men. There are many very good men on this site that are not millionaires, but they do have hearts of GOLD.

Randy, the Russian girls are stylish in general. The fact that they want to look nice does not make them gold diggers. Many Western woman are so casual in their dress that we have gotten too used to it. Frankly I prefer a more casual style on my girl, but not a sloppy look like we often see here in the US. And I don't want my girl to dress like a man either.
Probably the pictures you saw are from holidays (great events in Slavic culture) and dressy clothes and champagne are the norm for everyone!
Granted there are some girls here that only want money. I have come across several. But lots of good girls here too also with hearts of gold.

I have been living in Russia for for quite a while now, I am working here. I see the way they dress everyday. The photos for me, do not look natural, but very phony, and because I see how normal Russian women dress everyday, does make them look like they are looking for a "richer" lifestyle.

I see what you mean. Not sure where you are, but I have been in Minsk about 10 times and once in Ukraine. What I see on the site has generally matched what I have seen while there. Maybe we are looking at different girls on the site?!

I am in Krasnodar, south of Russia.
Minsk is an interesting city, I was there in 2005. Also been to Ukraine and Latvia.
I teach a lot of adults here, and they all dress very normal. Maybe if I was to go out to a dance club, maybe I would see girls dressed up very fancy, but normally no.

Well...I know one really good-looking girl here on this site, who posts a picture sitting in a Lexus. She has an engineering, a finance and a law degree. It's an older Lexus, but she doesn't really care to drive a newer one; the old Lexus works just fine!  )))) One of you guys should be so lucky to meet her! She's a gem!

Personally I don't mind when there are some, let's say professional or sexy photos, but I fully agree that natural and if possible also recent photos should be included. Well yes, my photos are not all recent, simply because I don't have so many. But a couple are recent, and I think it is fair enough.
I am photographer, and I do recognize photoshopped skin (as I do this manipulation myself for customers). I am not fully against it, as long as there are also natural photos. I mean the goal is to meet here someone that you have good chances to like in real life, therefore there is no benefit in giving false information, either in profile text or via modified photos.
I think, to find the right balance is maybe difficult... because you want to attract someone, so you -kind of- have to put interesting photos, but you also have to show your true self.

Great comment Haakon,I was once married to a good looking women . My daughter is a actress and model.I also do acting and have judged a few beauty contest as well.I stay clear of them . They think they are God's gift to man. Ok, Here in the USA they do , For the most part but not all of them. Go after the heart in her. It will tell you all about her in time. They can't hide from that. Neither can we for them. Beauty and looks are important that is attraction to you and her. But will that last and then what will you both do when it fades away between you both? How about character and morals and chemisty when it is all said and done. That's what i want and desire. I learned my lesson well.

Interesting topic! I read the profile answers before anything. If they contain narrative content, or if the answers are imaginative and clever, or if the answers convey a sense of expression, and if care has been taken with the translator, then the profile becomes interesting. If the answers are cryptic, or consist of a single word or single phrase, or do not indicate the importance of the answers, then the profile is less interesting. Also, everyone wants to their soul-mate, but do the answers show a willingness to adapt to a new culture? Or to struggle with learning the language? I usually only glance at the small profile pictures and do not enlarge until much later when serious conversation has ensued.

Standard portraits are the best. I think it is fine to look elegant. It is fine to show some cleavage if it gives advantage, but I very seldom will enlarge a bikini photo unless it has composition and narrative content. Some of the most attractive photos come from self made photos with the mobile phone or iPad, the "selfie". These are usually the most expressive and natural.
