I am hearing from friends here in the U.S. that women are rarely given the chance to purchase a visa

I am hearing from friends here in the U.S. that women are rarely given the chance to purchase a visa and if they do get one it may take years to actually be able to leave. Is any of this true?

Hi Mark, not really so. Your friends maybe think in terms from 20 years ago (or more). Anyone is free to leave Russia. The point is that other states play hardball sometimes when issuing visas.

Я была в Америке два раза, не имела проблем с получением визы.

Hello. It is not true. It depends how fast you and your fiancee make all documents ready. It take around 6-7 monthes more or less from the beginning (Petition for the Alien Fiancee (K-1) - to end ( getting visa) , provided your documents are done correct. K-3 visa( for alien spouses) takes the same time to get it (in common cases). USCIS.gov is standing by to help you.

Sorry, misunderstanding... For travel visa (B1/B2- business and pleasure) it takes 2 -3 weeks from applying for visa to getting it.. Next day after interview in embassy they can fly to the USA.

Yes, its true. . . Three months ago I was trying to get a visa. My girlfriend lives in America, and she invited me to visit. I was refused a visa. The embassy said that you can apply again for six months.

Larisa, It is true for you. It is your personal case. Many women even on this site travel a lot to many places they wish. Probably your documents for visa did not demonstrate to the consular officer strong ties to the country of your residence.
The consul is more interested in what you have to say rather than what documents you present. He can see your personality on interview.
"The embassy said that you can apply again in a six months." again it is just personal case. It was just suggesting and you can understand now what was wrong with your documents (or your background such as incom..etc) improve it and try again. Dont give up! There is no limitation for applying but money.
I wish you good luck.

Then older woman, then easily to get visa. The girls from 20 till 45 years , it is practically
impossible to get their visas. They are potential immigrants. Don't loose your time !

дорогой Марк виза дело второстепенное главное свое счастье найти и суметь удержать а если судьба то визу получите и встретитесь поженитесь и будете жить счастливо

I can only speak about Ukraine, not Russia or other countries. It totally depends what kind the visa is. It's not hard to get a student visa. Getting a tourist visa is rather challenging, because the requirements are similar to the business visa - people have to prove a significant income and also demonstrate strong relations with the motherland - job, property possession, family ties(like kids), etc.

Mark:

You should contact the Department of State back home and, the American Embassy in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. They can give you the correct answer to your question.

I do not know if it is true or not that you are hearing that from your friends in the United States of America, but you do.
About the info that you said that you are hearing from those friends, it may be or true or false, depending on each case.

It is really true especially now. I received my visa less than 2 years ago. Only 1 person from 80-100 can receive USA visa. I read in immigrant's groups and sites here in USA that now it is more difficult than 2 years ago

It's hard get a tourist visa even a work one tell u from experience. I been working for Royal Caribbean past 8 years before it was Easy get a transit Visa. As we stopped in us for few days. Now after Trump win elections and become the president and did some changes. Is really hard for people from Eastern Europe, or Russia and not only be able get a visa like b1b2 Visa or any other exchange program as used be before. If u apply for a fiance visa is best for u hire a good immigration lawyer, who's experienced into this u have to visit her at least few times during a year. To have a proof of relationship. Let them be gifts receipts,in fact at the interview is not always asked all those proof's. Years to leave takes for people who marry in the bride country. But if u bring her with fiance visa won't take longer then a year if u get a good lawyer.

It's not always. My friend from Ukraine did not get a visa. She is 65, she is a pensioner. Her daughter lives and works in America for many years.
