You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

Hello, what do you think of this? I like you to comment.

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

Give your hearts, but not into each others keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together.
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each others shadow.

You were everything to me, because I saw only on you.
And I felt, it is you that I want,
And I still remember the words I said:
We should go hand in hand through life, you and I,
If it happens sometimes that we get sad or tired,
We will comfort each other, that's the way it should be.

Hello, Tage!
Thanks for the wonderful poem (the first part of your post)! But you didn't mention the author - Khalil Gibran - and missed the first lines of it - 'Then Almitra spoke again and said, "And what of Marriage, master?" And he answered saying: ...'
Well, it's a fantastic poem usually read at weddings. Sometimes it takes time for people to understand its meaning. I see it as there should be harmony in our life, like parts create the whole, a balance, like a pair of scales.
But it's difficult to comment on the second part of your post ... past tense (???)

Thank you, Tage. I also love the "Prophet" Khalil Gibran, especially:
- Glad to hear it - I said - but what am You so fond of me?
- And so - he answered - that others come and go from crying, one you come with a smile and you leave with a smile.
