Wow, what a shame. I feel like that has become the standard now to be dishonest and deceitful. I don't like it and have had similar experiences done to me by women here in the United States. It is one thing if all that is desired is a casual sexual relationship and it is communicated upfront but when the profile clearly states you want a serious relationship it's not fair and a waste of time and money. Communication and honesty I believe is key in any good and healthy relationship. Some people are just selfish. As unfortunate as your experience may have been, you at least spared yourself further wasted time and can now pursue a man who will better match your qualifications.
