Well , I must say , that you have received some very interesting responses , from the other ladies.Yes , I live in Holland , but it was not me !! I believe that there is a song , with this phrase , "it was not me " .
Some years ago !!

While it is true , that some divorces , can last for many years , here , there are also situations , where the couple , can quickly decide , on the terms and the financial aspects.
Today , there are plans , to change the law and the rules , for a divorce , and to make it less difficult.

In fact , the parliament , wants to introduce ,a new law , for a very super fast divorce. The call it , the lightning flash divorce.
This means , that you can have a divorce in 1 day , when the 2 partners agree , on the terms , of property and finance.

But , in all divorces , the man (or the person , who brings in , the most money) , should pay alimony.
When the woman , marries with another man , the ex-husband , don`t have to pay anymore , for her financial support.

Because , at the divorce , she has already gotten , 1/2 of the property and of the money.
So , when the woman marries again , or she finds a job , the ex-husband ,no longer , has to pay for her support.

He will still , have to pay , for the support of the children.Until , the children are 18 years old.
That is still a long time , to go , when the children are still young , at the divorce.

Here in Holland , we also have , a sort of married situation. While in fact , the couple , is not really married.
But they can go to the notary , and let the notary , make a cohabitation. This is an official document.

With this document , the couple , will have ALL , and the SAME RIGHTS , as a married couple. They will also , have the same tax benefits , as a married couple.
And the children , will bear the name from the father.

They must register , this cohabitation , at the city`s civil administration.

About the man`s pension. It all depends , about their specific situation.Don`t forget , that these days , everyone , who is working here ,must have a participation , in a pension fund.

If the wife , never had a job , then she has not built some pension. This is very rare , these days.
The majority of the women here , have a job , for some years , before they get married. And even , after their marriage , they keep on working.

So , they work and pay , for their own pension.
Men get their pension , at the age of 65.But for the coming years , the age limit , is being raised.

In 2027 , men will get their pension at 67 years.I believe that for the women , this year limit , is also raised.
If they are still a couple , when the man dies , at 65 , his wife , can have some of his pension.

Maybe it is 50% , but I am not sure. And it also depends , on their specific situation.

So , when he said , he is "married , but living separately" , it is possible.
And it is also possible , that he had a cohabitation , with his ex-partner.

Either way , it is a bit of a confusing , situation. When they want to end , the cohabitation , everything must be divided.
The property and the money. And he will have to pay , alimony (to support his ex-partner and the children).

Maybe , he could have tried , to explain , all this to you.
But , it is a question , if you would have understood , all this.

So , the bottom line is , he can be lying to you , or he may not.
It all depends , if he was really married , or had a cohabitation contract.

It is up to you , what you want to find out.

Eric
