Yes it's ok to reply in Russian. But I hope that the translation in English is good.

And that I have understood what you are trying to say ...

You are right ; the phrase /words : what do you mean ???
is something that a Slavic woman with her new partner will use very often in the beginning.

In English the question would be like this : do you like to clean the windows ???

Or - would you like to clean the windows ???
- Would you like to wash the dishes ??? - after dinner

I understand that you and your partner need to adept to this new situation and this phenomenom ...

In Dutch it is : wil jij de ramen lappen / wassen ???( would you want to clean / wash the windows ??? )

So , it is important that before you give your reaction , you need a time - out and think what he is saying or asking you to do.

After some time you will get used to how we Dutch say things in our language.

But it needs 2 people to adept to the situation ...

I am sure that you will get by and over this unexpected hickup ...

It is better to ask - what do you mean ? - than to start a very heated discussion with all the consequences ...

I hope that this clears up some things - have a nice weekend

Een goed / fijn weekend ...
