Promise to write in one day and then not write? Is it a broken promise? Perhaps. It does not always signal a bad intent or a matter of character. There are times when content becomes awkward. Sit down, open the email, and then stare into the screen. What to write about? Content does not always flow. 'I ate a ham sandwich for lunch' It sounds silly to some. 'I went to work and then I came home'. Also silly. 'I think it will rain'. Silly. No content. Close the email, send nothing. Look at news or some other thing. Lack of experience in conducting a long distance electronic relationship, lack of understanding how to persist the contact. Something he did not attempt before, and finds he has difficulty with content. This is possibly not a sign of bad character. Just something to consider.
