Hello Galina,
I know you asked this question to the women, but I hope is it okay of I give you my thoughts. My former wife many years ago was from Ukraine. When I first met her, she did not speak very much English and I only knew a few words of Russian. When I first visited her in Ukraine, we had 4 translation dictionaries and phrase books with us and we had to look up many words so we could communicate even basic thoughts. It was very slow and difficult, but it is possible if both people have a lot of patience and they really want to communicate.
I would suggest that you have some dictionaries with you and bring a lot of patience. If the man you are meeting does not make time to try to communicate with you, then maybe you did not find the right man. If both of you have the patience and desire to do this, then it will be okay. One other idea is to always try to think of other words to say the same thing. Sometimes it is difficult to translate a word or phrase, but if you change it just a little it becomes easier to understand. My parents did not know English when they came to America and all of our family friends were also from other countries, so I grew up trying to understand many different accents and languages. It is possible and can even be fun if you think positive about it! Good luck!
