Honestly I agree, but wanted to say that it depends: "A real man doesn't just take care of 1 woman at a group event, he takes care of the table". IF the man doesn`t have money with him to pay for 25 persons at once - he can`t be a REAL man?   
I think being male/female itself doesn`t bring any obligations to pay or not to pay. It always depends.
In some countries it`s a tradinion that a male person pays. Just a tradition.
Women may expect that, why not?
Men may refuse, why not?
The question is how to deal after the paying and what the one side will think about the other side. And vica versa.
