I have visited my lady in Russia last month, and I am now also in the process to invite her to Canada. So I would like to give my suggestion and opinion here to Irina. Being the sponsor, your man must provide the following lists of documents. First, an invitation letter, it would be better if the invitation letter to be prepared and legalized by a lawyer. Second, a letter of employment which indicated his job position, his current salary, and how long has he been employed. Third, a copy of his previous year tax assessment from Revenue Canada, it is called "Notice of Assessment". Fourth, a full lists of all of his financial documents which prove his assets. Fifth, a copy of his passport and his visa to Russia. Sixth, a copy of his airline ticket to Russia. Seventh, a copy of his hotel receipt during his stay in Russia. Your man should first send all these documents to you, then you can include your documents and together send to the Canadian Embassy. Most importantly, do not forget to include some photos of the two of you together, this will be a solid prove to the Canadian Embassy that the two of you have indeed met each other in person. Irina, when you are ready to fill out the visa application form, my suggestion to you is to request only for the single entry visa, do not request for the multiple entry visa, because the Canadian Embassy may feel suspicious of your motive, especially if this is the first time you apply for the visa. Although if your visa will be approved, it will usually allow you to stay for 3 to 6 months. However, do not request to stay in Canada for more than three weeks on your application form. As for your documents, I believe you also need to provide your lists of financial assets and your letter of employment to the Canadian Embassy in order to prove you have strong tie and connection with your country. In your employment letter, you can suggest to your employer to write that you will be expected to return to your work on a certain day. This will give more confidence to the Canadian Embassy that you will return to Russia at the end of your stay. I hope my suggestions and opinion will be useful to you. Do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions.
