I too read with interest your post. For a couple of reasons. The first: I am an "older" man who looks still to be a father, so as my profile states, looks for lady younger than me. So, I am curious about your situation, but maybe that is for another post.
Second: I like some was surprised that you chose to stay in a hostel in NYC. (This next part of the conversation could answer some of the other questions that were raised about hostels in US) But maybe these hostels are like some in San Francisco that only allow people with passports, many times only foreign ones to stay there. Because in my city, Denver, homeless often stay in hostels because of the cheap rate. Of course I understand that hotels in NYC are expensive. My understanding is you must pay $150-200 per night to get any type of respectable place. And I read that you are independent, but maybe not oil sheik from middle east))joke
