Experiences of mistake in communication

The communication between people is susceptible to failures. And when they are from different places or cultures, or have distinct native languages, the chance to occur missunderstandings is increased. So, a communication between foreigners in similar situation may have extra elements to difficult the conversation, even if both are fluent in a specific idiom.


This post is destined to share experience involving barriers or failures in communication, especially with foreign people. You can cite occasion when you and an interlocutor were using any form of communication, for example, gesturing, writing, reading, speaking, or listening to each other. Your publication may avoid future mistakes or missunderstandings of members on this site.


You can publish any experience shown below, describing how it affected the communication and how both dealed with that:
1 - Anyone did not read something well and replied unexpectedly;
2 - Someone typed something wrong accidentally, changing the meaning of what was sent;
3 - The translator changed the meaning of what was written or recorded originally;
4 - An interpreter altered the meaning of a content written or anything spoken when doing translation, or had trouble to keep communication;
5 - Anyone said a normal sentence or joke in the own culture or region, but with another signification or not common where the other person lives;
6 - Any slang, figure of speech or other expression was utilized by someone, but not interpreted correctly by the other part;
7 - Something was spoken one another, but it was pronounced wrong or not comprehended correctly by the receiver;
8 - Anyone sounded clumsy in a foreign language, spelled something in a different or unusual way, or had accent;
9 - Anyone did body expressions, gestures or signals unknown, weird or not coherent between them, nor with what was being said;
10 - Other barriers in the communication, mistakes or missunderstandings in a correspondence or conversation.
