Adesso riderete tutti di me

Bueno Tim... No te preocupes.

Hello Victor! I agree; the people who behave like this give the rest of the country a black eye, even if their actions are not common compared to the rest of the people. Whenever I travel to a new country, I try to be very mindful of my actions and remember that, ultimately, I am an ambassador of my country. I want to represent my nation in a positive light.

Cierto Tim...

One of the things that amazes me, Andrew, it the justification by some for the bad things going on in the world. If it were anyone else (like, for instance, the US), there would be severe condemnation. But since they are doing it, it's okay!

Hey good to see you Doug! Hanging in there; I'm actually heading to Ukraine this Saturday! Not to meet anyone, unfortunately, but it'll be neat to see a new country.

Tim, everyone wants to know where you are going. Which city?   (They need to know to buy train tickets ahead of time!)

Ha! If only that were true. Maybe I'll make a topic here and update it with my travels. I don't want to clog up Tom's thread but I'm planning on spending a week or so in Kiev and another week in....well, I haven't decided yet. I've been really leaning towards Lviv or maybe Kharkiv.

With the news this morning, Tim, my heart is crushed. I am easy to find on Facebook, my friend. I do not usually feel this useless.

This experience must be devastating for you.  Along time ago a wise man told me "one monkey does not stop the show".  We pick up the pieces, and we move on, and we do not look back. Others have written that the Moscow ladies may be wearing an affectation of sophistication that is only a veneer.  Look for the girls in Arkhangelsk or Perm or Krasnoyarsk or Kemerovo.  Thousands more!

Many years ago the writer Boris Pasternak selected Perm to be the fictional town of Yuriatin, and it was because this place held symbolic meaning for the soul of Russia.  And the same with Tolstoy.  That soul is not found in Moscow.  Take care...

I would like to visit Krasnojarsk and see the landscapes and geographic features. Chekhov, who wrote during the Imperial era, described the city as the most beautiful in Siberia. Also it would be nice to see Tomsk, which has been described as the "Athens of Siberia" for its architecture and education. Near Tomsk is the secret city of Seversk, which would be fascinating to visit. Tomsk was included in the writings of British author Elisabeth Beresford. Both of those cities have a nice airport and good hotels. I think the local cuisine would be fun to sample. Lots of places. It depends upon knowing someone and the travel.

In the USSR, Krasnoyarsk city was closed to foreigners - there are many objects of strategic importance. After "perestroika" production was curtailed and open access to foreigners. Now decided to restore these objects. So hurry up while the city is still open for visits by foreign tourists. We have beautiful nature!

Beautiful photos of Siberia; it is plain to see the majesty and what interests me.  And now you advise that this wonderful locale will again disappear beneath the shroud of secrecy.  A shame.  I suspect Mr Putin wishes to have all the fish in the Krasnoyarsk rivers to himself for his holiday.  Russians can be strange in the manner of secrecy sometimes.  Still a shame to lose this treasure of Siberia that Chekov wrote so fondly.  I am grateful for your advice that Krasnoyarsk will close.  Thanks!

Indeed, the wooden ginger bread architecture in Tomsk is a compelling attraction; and I did not know you were knowledgeable about its details.  And also I have made some geometric modeling of the yurts from pictures of Kazakhstan.  And the river.  Surprised.  I will examine Surgut now; it has escaped my attention so far

I knew that you lived far away, but never the location.  It only says Russia, Other.  "Other" for Russia means territory in 11 time zones!  I suspected the far east as your features show oriental extract, very delicate and sensuous and appealing.  I am grateful for your advice and sharing your experience about Tomsk.  I suppose I must hurry before Tomsk will also fall into the darkness of Russian secrecy
