Is it still possible to meet in Russia?

I met a wonderful woman from Izhevsk through this site, I would love to meet her. However, I live in the Netherlands. Due to the sanctions, it is not possible to travel from the European Union to Russia. However, air traffic is still possible between Turkey and Russia.

Has anyone had any experience with meeting in Russia lately? Is it possible to obtain a visa? Is it possible to travel in Russia? And is it possible to buy rubles within the European Union? I hope someone can help me! And I also think that more people from the European Union run into the same questions.

Just my thoughts.
Is it possible for the woman to travel to Turkey ?

You may know that Russians can go on vacation in Turkey.

With some (financial) help from your side , I believe it would be a much better solution.

You don`t have to worry about big problems - she will not have big problems either.

I consider this to be a win - win situation ..

Unless she has little children to take care of , and she can`t just leave

In my opinion, if a man wants something, then he will definitely achieve it. Especially if there is a woman who believes him and waits him. If you have never been to Russia before, then meeting a woman you like will also be an opportunity for you to plunge a little into the culture in which your woman grew up and lives. I sincerely wish you to meet, and may success accompany you!)

I would not travel to Russia at this time. I agree with Eric - meet on middle ground where connecting flights are not necessary. This has the added bonus of making an adventure out of it for both of you.

I second the gentlemen's above opinion regarding meeting in a 3d country. I personally do not believe that traveling to Russia would pose any danger. It is just logistically cumbersome and unnecessary expensive due to currently imposed sanctions. There are very nice locations where you and your vis-a-vis can both travel to relatively easy, such as Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Serbia, etc.
Additionally, a piece of unsolicited advice: to not send any money. You could book a ticket for a lady should you decide to assist her with making travel arrangements, but absolutely no remittances. That will spare you of possible disappointment and heart ache. It does not happen too often, but we have seen some very unfortunate stories where well-meaning men were scammed for money.

Hello. I am sure in Europe and Turkey, you can buy rubles, but if you arrange a meeting in Turkey, it is better to change it to the local currency. I was in Turkey and Europe this summer, the situation is wonderful, there are no fears. You can consider other options, there are many of them, there would be a desire for both. Do not postpone your meeting, I wish you the fulfillment of your plans..

This comment is for all who responded, thank you very much!

Yes, I was recently on holiday in Turkey. Still a lot of Russians there on holiday!

The problem is that my girlfriend has never flown before and does not dare to fly to Turkey alone. The meeting should therefore take place in Russia.

I have now found out that I can get a visa through the visa office in the Netherlands. And that the cost of a plane ticket from Istanbul to Moscow or Kazan is very high. I can buy rubles at Istanbul airport.

A valid question is whether it's wise to travel to Russia in this situation. That's why I hope someone responds who has done this lately!

By the way, I have been to Russia several times, so the trip itself is not unknown to me! Beautiful nature and culture, great people!

Beste Danny!

Groetjes.

Should you decide to fly to Russia, it's unnecessary to change your EUR to RUB in Istanbul. You can do that in Russia and the exchange rate likely to be much better. Just don't change all the money at the airport upon arrival. Banks are ubiquitous in the cities and offer good exchange rate.

Thanks for your message! The reason I asked a question about buying rubles is because I understood that the Russian government does not allow people to take Euros to Russia.

Not correct. There were a few instances when Russian nationals crossing Finnish-Russian border by land were banned from taking large (well over 1000 EUR) amounts of cash to Russia. It was the Finnish authorities initiative. The Russian government absolutely doesn't mind you to bring your cash into the country.
Again, that happened to people crossing from Finland by land only. If you fly through Istanbul, just comply with your own country and Turkey's policies regarding moving cash across the border.

If you need an official invitation letter to apply for Russian visa, you should check this https://visa4u.ru/Pages/en-visasupport.aspx. Your girlfriend can order it online and pay with her Russian card. She is going to need a scan of your passport, bio page, and the proposed dates or travel.
The invitation will be send by email, you can print it out at home. The price is very low and the company is legit. I used their services few times to invite foreigners to Russia.

The distance between Izhevsk and Kalingrad is too far to travel by train. So this option is out.

If you are really interested in this woman, come yourself. She does not live in Moscow or St. Petersburg, but in Izhevsk, and the logistics of flying to Istanbul are not the best option for her. The fastest flight with one connection takes almost 20 hours. Also, if you've never been to Russia, it's not a bad trip for you. The only thing is to offer the woman a meeting in Moscow or St. Petersburg. This will be "neutral territory" for you and for her, but here she will be in her environment, which will help you to reveal her inner world better, I think. Exchanging euros in Russia is easy - there are banks on every corner and yes - don't be afraid of anything

In such situation, i would contact a russian travel agency (in NL) with the following questions:
- are there tourist vouchers for short visits (up to 10 days) for the Hrodna or Brest region ?
- are there bus or train connections from NL to Warsaw (better Bialystok) ?
- are border crossings PL/BY open for citizens of NATO countries ?
