Мужчине иногда требуется подтверждение его значимости. Мужчина подсознательно жаждет одобрения и восхищения. Если для нас (женщин) красивые слова - это "витамин счастья" , ни к чему не обязывающий допинг, то для мужчины похвала - это руководство к действию.

это мужчины с низкой самооценкой. а женщины, привыкшие к восхищению, комплиментам, ухаживанию и красивым словам с детства и слышащие их ежедневно, настолько привыкают к ним что не понимают как можно считать их витамином счастья   так, обычные слова вежливости которые не нуждаются в ответах. есть конечно люди ( любого пола) особо падкие на лесть. но это не относится к жажде одобрения именно от любимой жнщины. это скорее тоже какие то комплексы

Well, why, like a woman   Love is needed by all. And while this is not in life, we have it in novels  .. I am not a big fan of English literature .. Apart from the Bronte sisters, I probably would have singled out Galsworthy , and only " the Forsyte Saga". Remarque is closer to me, maybe Hemingway .. And, Marquez. But this is today .. Tomorrow everything can change   

James Herriot is one of the favorite authors of my daughter Alina. His brilliant works laid a foundation of her love to English language and eventually lead her to a college in the USA. Her carrer is in pablic policy field, but she says that in case she feels burned out one day, she has a Plan B, to become a vet like James Herriot.  

Probably stupid question but has she seen the Television series “all creatures great and small” this was based on the books but adapted for television. The English is very good too in these programmes

No, she hasn't. But I know for sure that she read that book, All Creatures Great and Small, in Russian and later, in English. Some stories were just hilarious. And you're right, David, the Herriot's language is impeccable. Great books to teach children good English.

Согласна с вами. Если женщина негативно выражается о мужчинах в целом, то и мнение о ней же самой у мужчин складывается отрицательное.

Ohh ... I'm risking disappointing you. Yes, I read .. But, I'm not a big fan of ladies' novels. Barbara Taylor, in principle, has the same repetitive plot. In general, most authors have such a sin. The first novel is excellent, here "The Woman of Substance", the others somehow repeat the plot of the "main" novel .. Of the modern ones, I really liked Pierce Paul Reed and his "Married Man". I don’t know what terrain he is from, but quite an exciting plot
