Dear Majid, don't take it personally please, but I can't imagine any sane woman from a European country, including Ukraine, Russia, Belorussia, etc., voluntarily moving to Saudi Arabia. It's hard to think about the worse place to be a woman, except North Korea, perhaps.
Saudi Arabia is a country that does not allow women to have basic civil rights and make decisions about their own lives; where female victims of rape are subjected to corporal punishment and sentenced to prison; where women are obliged by law to have a man relative guardian; where until recently, husband could divorce his wife without even letting her know and only recently the law changed to oblige the husband to notify the wife through a text message! Until last year, women were not allowed to drive!
No doubts, Saudi Arabia is an incredibly rich country and those Saudi men who have money can enjoy life to the fullest. For women though, it seems like the time stopped in the Medeival Dark Ages in Saudi Arabia.

Dear Svetlana,

As you say i won't take it persoally at all, and respect your opinion.

First, there are many Russian families in Saudi and this subject is to help them knows what the rules and guide lines are if needed as help to my follow comrades who plan to marry or already married from Saudian man.

Secondly, i think you have wrong information about Saudi Arabia and it's law.

Perhaps, you are right and my knowledge of Saudi Arabia family laws is very shallow. My knowledge based on the information from open sources here in the States, and my husband's (US citizen) experience, who had been living and working in Saudi Arabia as the USA official for several years.
Would you mind to enlighten us and tell us more about what rights married women have in Saudi Arabia regarding their own education, job, reproductive healthcare, property, custody for children born in marriage? Do women have the freedom to travel? What if a woman is a victim of abuse from her spouse? Can she seek help from government law enforcement? What kind of policies are in place in Saudi Arabia to protect women from domestic violence and abuse? Can a woman initiate divorce from her husband and still keep custody of her children and claim her share of property?

I am very curious to learn more about Saudi Arabia since it remains one of the most inaccessible and closed countries in the world, where foreigners hardly ever granted permission to visit. Thank you in advance!

i won't mind at all...

regarding education. women have the freedom to study in any field they wish, we have lawyers, doctors, nurses, engineering, etc... education is free and in university they get salary. same goes for job. all fields and governmental they can work with no limitation. regarding reproductive healthcare we have a free maternity and children hospitals in every city with the top doctors and medical equipment same as in Europe and USA. they can buy, sell and trade in property without any issues. for custody in our law children must be with their mother till they come to age to choose, unless of unfitting mother (health wise) but not for financial as it is the father duty to pay for child support even if the mother working. yes, the women have freedom to travel any time anywhere. we have a government department for domestic abuse and child abuse, they can call and report and government will take the proper action like any other country. a wife can simply go to court and request for divorce and take custody of her children and claim her share for support and property.

Thanks for your reply, Majid. I briefly researched the topic myself, out of sheer curiosity, and what I found contradicts almost everything you said. Isn't it odd? Let's clarify, are you speaking about Saudi Arabia or Belorussia, where you currently reside as your profile states? If your reply is about the legal status of women in Belorussia, then I fully agree.
Regarding Saudi Arabia, the situation is drastically different, as my research shows. For instance, there's information that the institution of male guardianship for women is still at place. It means that every woman is required to have a guardian, close male relative (husband, son, father, uncle, etc.), mahram. A woman needs her guardian's permission for: marriage and divorce, education, travel, opening bank account, having elective surgery, etc. The rules regarding guardianship apply to foreign citizen women married to Saudi men. There are many cases reported when guardians abused their power for a personal gain, like a father marrying off his 8 y.o. daughter to a 47 y.o. man, to have his debt forgiven.

`

Yes, a woman can go to a government agency or a court to buy or sell a property, but she has to bring two male witnesses to testify to her identity. And four more male witnesses to testify that the first two actually know her, all together, six males to be able to complete one transaction. In court, the testimony of one man equals that of two women, and so on. The inheritance share of women in Saudi Arabia is less than that to which men are entitled on the grounds of provisions of the Quaran, that daughters should inherit half as much as sons.
By law, fathers have sole custody of the children, who belong to their fathers. In case of a divorce, mothers may, or may not, be granted the custody of their children, until they reach the age of seven. Older children are usually awarded to the father or parental grandparents.

Could you comment on the above, please?

Dear Majid

I’ve been reading the exchanges between yourself and Svetlana.

I think you are a clever man and I think you understand that Belarus Russia or Ukraine is the country you and any future wife would need to settle

Without upsetting your traditional values or customs I believe the following

.The legal system of Saudi Arabia is based on Sharia, Islamic law derived from the Qur'an and the Sunnah (the traditions) of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The sources of Sharia also include Islamic scholarly consensus developed after Muhammad's death.

Yes women can now drive and go concert and listen to music 🎶 however the bans have not been lifted long and In many country’s Sharia law is not allowed!! The belief is very unpopular with all western Christianity and people practicing such faiths.

You seem a very nice and educated man however I don’t think it’s advisable for you to settle in SA...

I love the Russian and Ukrainian churches and there very beautiful and part of Slavic culture.. I can’t see a Slavic woman unless from a Asian state being happy to conform to Sharia law

`

Please feel free to continue to debate my friend

Regards Dave

Sharia law divides offences into two general categories: "hadd" offences, which are serious crimes with set penalties, and "tazir" crimes, where the punishment is left to the discretion of the judge.
Hadd offences include theft, which can be punishable by amputating the offender's hand, and adultery, which can carry the penalty of death by stoning.
Some Islamic organisations have argued that there are many safeguards and a high burden of proof in the application of hadd penalties.
The UN has spoken out against death by stoning, saying it "constitutes torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and is thus clearly prohibited".

Dear Svetlana,

I am not trying to sell you Saudi Arabia and tell you false information. I lived most of my life in Saudi regardless of what written in my profile. My family is large "very very large" most of your questions happened in my family. My Uncel wife divorced him "he did not want divorce" and took full custody of the kids ages between 1-16 both male and female and she did it without her guardian "My Uncel". regarding guardianship it's fit for men and women under the age of 21 after the age of 21 they can make their own decision. From the age of 18 a person male or female can go and issue "Government ID card" any citizen above the age 21 with ID card can open bank account, have surgery and travel without the need of guardian permission. What you say is outdated after the government started to issue ID cards for females 8-10 years ago.

Svetlana, i am here with this topic try to guide people who are in Saudi or about to move there. like giving direction to a place i can't give false information. please correct your information and research from reliable source such as Saudi government website that end with .gov.sa all government procedures and rules are written in their website. what you need exactly.

about marriage in Saudi please provide me the source that said an 8 y.o daughter married to a 47 y.o. man. Because I do not believe this happen

David

it is not proper to discuss subject as political or religious matter. never ends well in debate, and always get offended to someone. so i will not try to go into debate regarding this matter. the subject is under "Marrying in Muslim countries"

But i wish to ask you one small favor. as you are from UK and i am from Saudi. please do a research about Saudi and UK crimes. let’s take the "hadd" law in crimes such as "murder, theft and adultery/rape". see who is higher and who is lower, UK or Saudi. as i believe numbers does not lie and Saudi Arabia will be far lower than UK.

you have deferent law regarding those 3/4 crimes. to measure the success of the law is by how lower the crime is that law effects.

Majid I wasn’t in Saudi Arabia but I agree in England there is not enough control in Belarus there is much control. I read from your reply’s your a good man of this there is no doubt. However it’s hard for woman to endorse such laws when not from Muslim country sorry if I have turned it political. Wasn’t my intention. I also don’t question Saudi laws I question how suitable some women would feel it was with women’s rights not being same has men’s

A 23-year-old British woman going to Dubai on vacation and her 44-year-old lover had a drink at a restaurant on Christmas night. The young girl who went into the toilet of their restaurant drunk was raped here. The young girl then applied to the police with her fiance. However, instead of examining the rape incident, the police put the couple in jail for 2 days on the grounds that they had committed adultery and had a drink. ::::: news

That is absolutely not true. drinking in UAE is allowed. adultery between lovers is allowed in their private home or hotel **not on public**. the news is not correct. please include the reference or please do not post unreliable information.

Dear Hermann,
Thank you for your interest.
now a days the regulation of the government had slightly changed,
If you know this lady, you propose to her, after she agree to the marriage you must request her hand in marriage from her father. the father duty is to check if you are a good fit to her, and advise her and consult her. if she yes, she must request a permission from Ministry of Interior. (note: law dictate any citizen want to marry from abroad must obtain a permission from MOI = gain visa for spouse). after she get the permission you can marry in Saudi Arabia or in Germany. authenticate and register the marriage via Embassy.
