You say you want a 'Strong' man

Help me to understand please ladies, what do you mean when you say you want a ‘Strong’ man.
What defines ‘strong’?

It is a requirement I see over and over again from Slavic women.

Do you mean rich? Do you mean successful? Or do you mean able to make decisions?

Do you only want him to make decisions in the house? In the bed? Over the household finances? Or to decide everything?

To me, a western man and a Christian, someone who takes control, makes all the decisions and determines all is not a man, but is a bully. He is controlling and is emotionally abusive.

For me the relationship should be about equality, it should be about sharing and it should be about compromise and understanding (and Love of course). Maybe I am wrong and this is why I fail constantly? Or do you really mean you want a rich successful man? because I am not sure only such a man will make you truly happy. And it would be better to say so from the beginning rather than use this ambiguous term ‘strong’.

So I am interested to hear different opinions from the women, if you are willing to help.

The definition of "strong man" in modern women in the post-Soviet space is very different from your the above qualities, although they may be an added bonus. So it happened historically, unfortunately our gene pool was badly damaged in the revolution, civil and world war II, several generations of women raised children in a single. As a result there was a bias, many, bat not all, our mens have weak character, all of them life depend on others opinion; mothers, spouses, the chief at work. In the end, a woman just gets tired of carrying the burden alone in the family. This applies not only to the upbringing of children, but often the material support of the family, when there is no equal partnership.

The concept of "strong man" means for me a man of strong spirit. This is a man who knows what he wants from life, who has clear concrete goals, who has certain life principles and follows them, who has a clear life position, who makes a clear choice. And yes. The one who is ready to take responsibility for his woman. This does not mean making decisions for her and making choices for her, it means taking care of her and being near (mentally and physically) in all life circumstances.

This whole "strong man", "real man", "proper man" is nothing but futile, empty and brainless chatter and waffle.
It's a cheap and low trick of manipulation: 'women' (creatures) who blabber about that, merely seek a footmat that will all the trash they intend to pour down and dish out.
The call for a "strong man" only comes from creatures who are too weak, too feable and too afraid to live by taking their own decisions. They literally NEED someone who does it all for them and - if things go wrong - someone whom they can hold accountable for and blame. Pathetic, really!
My advice: kick & cut 'em: there's a useful block function for those, they deserve precisely that - and only that.

I'm a weak as a woman the same as a person. I'm not afraid to confess about it. God made me like that. And I NEED a strong man to feel his care and support. Is that a crime? I can give moral support and care to a man in my turn. In your opinion weak persons do not deserve to be happy? Or I should not excist because Mr. BEN despice weak women?

If you need a man to care then obviously you seek a CARING man.
If you want your man to support you, then he is a SUPPORTIVE man.
What and how does that have anything to do with "strength"?
You say yourself that you're ready to (I quote!) "give moral support and care to [your] man" - so apparently you ARE strong enough for that.
I don't despise 'weak women' - I despise manipulation, trickery, fraud and hypocracy. People who call on the strength of others do so in order to exploit them, and that's despicable.

Thanks for that input, but still I disagree mightily.
First of all men and women are no "concepts". These may be applicable to science or management, but not fit for a relationship.
If someone has clear goals in mind, the person is either FOCUSSED, GOAL-ORIENTED, or a DECISION-MALKER, none of these have anything to do with "strong man".
If you want a man who cares, then he is CARING MAN. If you want him to be responsible, he is a RESPONSIBLE man. Still, none of these have anything to do with strength.
Only weak people want or need to find a "strong" person.
(The same, of course, also applies to men).

Tatyana, I personally believe that you are a very strong woman. It takes a great deal of strength to admit one's own traumatic experience and what you call "weakness". I believe you are a strong woman and you need a man who will appreciate, respect, and care for who you are, vulnerable yet resilient.

Hey, Ken!

Thanks for such an interesting question. Let me offer my perspective on the topic. I'm originally from Russia and been married to a strong Western man for two years now. I believe I gained some insight into the issue of the discrepancies in the expectations of Slavic (for the lack of a better word) ladies and Western men for each other. By no means, I'm an expert though, so it's just my opinion.

Most of the ladies of suitable age grew up in a society with very traditional gender roles. What I mean by traditional gender roles is that everything related to home, children, housework, relationship with the relatives, etc. is mostly women's sphere of influence and responsibility. Let's call it microsystem. Most of the issues in the bigger world or macrosystem, such as job and stable income, dealing with authorities, official paperwork of all kinds etc., is expected to be handled mostly by men.

`
In a nutshell - microsystem - women; macrosystem - men.

Slavic ladies, well most of them, will not expect you to do your fair share of house chores, unlike ladies in most European countries or in the States. However, they will expect you to be a breadwinner for the family, a problem solver.

I perfectly understand what you mean when you say relationship based on equality. I think, most Slavic ladies would like to participate in the decision-making process and do not want all the decision to be made for them by their man. However, full true equality means not only equal rights but also assuming equal responsibilities. I believe that this is the latter the Slavic ladies are not willing to embrace. Particularly, contributing financially.

I am not trying to take one side or the other. Just attempted to provide some sort of perspective onto the topic, the way I see it.

Good luck in your endeavor finding your soul mate, your Slavic lady. My husband thinks that despite all the hardships we had to overcome that was the best decision he had made in his life.

Guys, I just realized that my above message needs some clarification.

Generally, I agree with Ben. The term strong man in the context of relationship should be understood as loving, caring, supportive, encouraging, NOT authoritative and dominating. That is precisely what I meant when I described my husband as a strong man.

However, what most ladies mean when they say I need a strong man, I believe is a man who will provide and protect a woman from most of the life hardships. In most cases, Slavic woman is okay with some power differential (to a degree!) in the relationship in exchange for financial security. Most of the Slavic ladies, not all of them though, are not ambitious in terms of career and very family oriented.

My advice would be to communicate your expectations to a woman very clearly at the very early stage of the relationship. What kind of woman are you looking for, the one who wants to jump onto a new career path or the one who prefers to be a stay-at-home wife?

`

Respectfully,

Svetlana

Good day to you. Unfortunately, the difference in mentality does not allow you to understand the psychology of Slavonic women. I'm not talking about the imperfection of the translation. And, no matter how it was there, you came to this site in search of your woman. And you will definitely find it.

Privet Svetlana,

Thank you for your response, it is very helpful.

Your advice is very good and I will endevour to take it on board.
Lastly, I do apologise for using the word 'Slavic' but it does help to describe a wider population group who are similar in many respect and different in many respects from the kind of women from my own geographical location.

Hi Ben,
Thank you for your input. I am thinking you may have also have been 'fleeced' at some point, if I may put it like this. You make some very valid points, and this second post in particular is very much what I was getting at with my first question.

I think Ben is making reference to Slavic women having a specific personality trait, and generally being petty and too demanding. And in such case when men do not conform to the demands and expectations of these women, he get's labeled for being too "weak." Of course, there are women with the different definitions of "strong" and "weak" but in the end only the strong man decides who is who, and what is what

IMPRESSIVE: 3 sentences and all 3 are wrong:
1) The word 'mentality' derives from the word LATIN word "mens / mentis" - and MEANS 'mind', i.e. it refers to sense, to logics, to the capacity of thinking. All you need for that is a human brain. I sincerely hope, you can follow the logic.
2) the "psychology of SLAVONIC women" - which would also include Czechs, Poles and partially even Romanian.
To push them all under one umbrella is devoid of any reasonable point whatsoever. The differences are all TOO obvious.
In other words: you make a pretentious post and use words, terms and phrases that you yourself do not have the slightest clue of.
PS: a woman is NOT an "it" - feel free to check any encyclopedia or ask a biologist. They will confirm

You're welcome,
Nothing to do with any fleeces whatsover. It's a plain and simple tautology:
only weak people seek strong people or 'leaders' or whatever other label they may tag.
Only people - men or women alike! - who are ready (i.e. "strong enough") to ALSO accept responsibility, who ALSO care, who ALSO support and all that, are truly ready for a relationship.
All else is either mental, physical or material abuse.
(Free-riders, manipulators and bigots would of course disagree   )
